Conference Events
The conference will begin on Wednesday, October 25, with the board meeting in Stewart Hall on the University of Missouri campus.
On Thursday, October 26, a bus tour will focus on German settlement in Missouri. We will explore Hermann, an 1837 town established by the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia, that is now a popular heritage tourism destination. Our final stop is in Jefferson City, the state capital. The Old Munichburg neighborhood was settled by waves of German immigrants beginning in 1844. A late afternoon walking tour will focus on Downtown Columbia architecture and urban morphology. Finally, an evening welcoming reception will be held at The Broadway.
On Friday, October 27, paper sessions will be held in Memorial Union on the University of Missouri campus. An evening reception, banquet, and awards ceremony will be hosted at The Broadway.
On Saturday, October 28, a bus tour will explore the Boonslick region, the first significant Missouri region to be settled by Euro-Americans away from the Mississippi River. Stops include tiny Arrow Rock, an 1829 town that is now a state historic site and is credited with beginning the historic preservation movement in Missouri, plus the Mid-Missouri communities of Franklin, New Franklin, and Boonville.
